Guardiola refutes talk of summer overhaul at Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has refuted talk of a summer overhaul at the club.

City have endured a difficult season and trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by 20 points. Guardiola’s side have also exited Europe early after losing to Real Madrid in their Champions League play-off tie.

It’s been a stark decline from last season’s title success and has prompted talk of a major rebuild in the summer transfer window. Several of the club’s older players, including Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Ederson have been linked with exits, but Guardiola has insisted there will be no wholesale changes.

Speaking ahead of the club’s FA Cup fifth-round tie with Plymouth, Guardiola said the club’s over 30 contingent still have a big role to play next season.

Asked whether he felt confident of repeating the club’s past success and whether the older players were part of the future, he told his pre-match press conference: “Never impossible but it is difficult because when you have done what we have done it was deemed impossible before we did what we have done.

“There are players here that their age is over 30 but they are part of the future of this club. Except Kevin [de Bruyne], and Kevin and the club will decide on his future everyone who has a contract for next season I expect him to be here.

“They are going to help us. Next season will be a lot of games. We cannot do it just with our new ones. They will be able to help and be part of our season.”
