Liverpool injury concern as Trent Alexander-Arnold limps off vs PSG

Liverpool have been dealt a major injury concern after Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced off the pitch during Wednesday’s Uefa Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The full-back started the round-of-16 second leg at Anfield, but didn’t finish the game after he landed awkwardly while trying to make a challenge midway through the second half.

The 26-year-old looked in some discomfort as he received treatment on the sideline. A stretcher was brought out, but he was able to walk gingerly to the dressing room, which may suggest it’s not a serious injury.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot replaced Alexander-Arnold with defender Jarell Quansah in the 73rd minute with the scoreline 0-1 to the visitors. Ousmane Dembele tapped the ball in from close range early in the first half to bring PSG level on aggregate and send the contest to extra time.

Alexander-Arnold’s injury could be a major blow to the Reds if it were to rule him out of the League Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley this Sunday. It might leave Slot without a fit right-back as Conor Bradley is currently sidelined with a muscle injury. Joe Gomez, who has slotted into the position in the past, is also out of action after having surgery on his hamstring last month.

Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister will miss Liverpool’s next match in the Champions League after picking up his second booking of the season in the competition.
