Man Utd striker Cavani ‘wants’ to join Barcelona

Edinson Cavani is said to be keen on joining Barcelona at the end of the season, with the Manchester United forward out of contract next summer.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Cavani in recent weeks as the cash-strapped Spanish side seek attacking reinforcements, the 34-year-old free to negotiate pre-contract terms with foreign sides from January.

Cavani signed a one-year extension to his contract at Old Trafford last summer, following an impressive debut season that saw the Uruguay international score 17 goals across all competitions after arriving from Paris Saint-German.

Injury issues have prevented Cavani from featuring regularly this season, making just two league starts for the campaign.

The Times are reporting that Cavani is keen to sign for Barcelona next summer, with the veteran confident he can remain operating at the highest level for a further two seasons.

Cavani has been a long-term target for the Catalan club and ‘holds the ambition’ of representing the Spaniards before the end of his career, whilst the forward shapes as a cost-efficient method of strengthening for Barcelona given their current financial situation.

Barcelona’s options have been depleted since the departures of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann and the La Liga side have seen the future of summer signing Sergio Aguero become uncertain.

The Argentina international is reportedly considering retirement from the game after suffering chest issues earlier this season.
