Wijnaldum ‘open’ to Premier League return in January following lack of PSG opportunities

Georginio Wijnaldum is ‘open’ to a loan return to the Premier League next month following a lack of opportunities at Paris Saint-Germain.

Wijnaldum has failed to establish himself at Paris Saint-Germain since a free transfer move from Liverpool last summer, the midfielder having made just seven league starts amid fierce competition for places at the Parc des Princes.

Arsenal are believed to be interested in signing the Netherlands international during the January window, though Sky Sports are reporting that PSG are reluctant to allow Wijnaldum to leave the club.

The 31-year-old was an integral figure across five seasons with Liverpool, winning both the Champions League and Premier League in 237 appearances after signing from Newcastle in 2016.

Wijnaldum has previously spoken on his unhappiness with his current role at the Ligue 1 leaders, having been an ever-present for Jurgen Klopp in recent seasons on Merseyside.

Arsenal’s interest comes with the Gunners set to lose Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny to Africa Cup of Nations duty in January, the north Londoners understood to be considering midfield reinforcements as the winter window approaches.
