Ralf Rangnick is keen for Manchester United to build on last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace, as the German prepares for his second league fixture in charge at Old Trafford.
United began the tenure of the interim manager with a 1-0 win against the Eagles last weekend, before drawing with Young Boys during a mid-week Champions League dead-rubber.
Rangnick’s side return to action with a trip to face the Premier League’s bottom side, Norwich, on Saturday evening and the 63-year-old has opened up on his early period in charge of the side.
Rangnick was pleased with the ‘basis’ of the club’s performance against Palace and is keen for his side to ‘build on’ that result as the Red Devils seek a consistent run of Premier League results.
“The first thing is to get to know the players. We did quite well against Palace. Now it is about taking the next steps,” Rangnick told his pre-match press conference.
“We have not had a full group training together yet. The basis against Palace was good, we didn’t allow them too many opportunities and kept a clean sheet.
“It will be a challenge to play at Carrow Road. We want to build on what we showed against Palace and hopefully get the win.”
Rangnick also spoke on the future of Dean Henderson, amid speculation the goalkeeper will be allowed to leave on loan during the January window.
Henderson was handed a start during the Champions League clash with Young Boys, but has struggled to dislodge David de Gea as the club’s number one this season.
Rangnick suggested the Red Devils would be open to allowing ‘one or two’ leave on loan during the winter window, but insisted it is important to maintain a strong collection of goalkeepers.
“We have quite a few top goalkeepers. You saw that against Young Boys,” he said. “It’s a position where we have minimum of three good goalkeepers, maybe four or five.
“There might be one or two going on loan but we have three competitions [to compete in] and we need three top goalkeepers in case of injury or suspension.”
