Manchester City ‘won’t break the bank’ to sign Erling Haaland this summer, with Manchester United ‘the only serious bidder’ for the Borussia Dortmund forward at present.
Haaland’s signature is arguably the most coveted in world football at present with each of Europe’s leading clubs monitoring the forward’s situation, a release clause of €75m set to become active in the Norwegian’s contract at the end of the season.
Manchester City have been linked with his signing as Pep Guardiola seeks the addition of a centre-forward, though SPORT are reporting that the Premier League champions ‘won’t break the bank’ for Haaland with rumours of record-breaking wage demands for the 21-year-old.
Barcelona are also interested, but the Catalan club’s financial situation makes a deal appear difficult, whilst Real Madrid’s priority is the signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea’s signing of Romelu Lukaku last summer has lessened their interest and PSG – potentially in the market for a forward with Mbappe set to depart – is not high on Haaland’s preference of destinations.
Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have been mentioned as potential clubs for Haaland by the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, but there are doubts whether each would match the demands required to sign a forward who has scored 76 goals in just 74 appearances for Dortmund.
Bild, as per SportWitness, are reporting that Manchester United are currently ‘the only serious bidder’ in the race for Haaland, having missed out on his signing to Dortmund in 2020.
Ralf Rangnick was sporting director at Red Bull during Haaland’s emergence at RB Salzburg and could look to re-sign the forward next summer.
