Barcelona agree deal with Manchester City for Ferran Torres

Barcelona have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign Ferran Torres in a deal worth an initial €55m.

The Catalan side had made the Spain international their leading target as the club sought the signing of a forward during the January transfer window and have agreed a deal with the Premier League champions.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a deal has been reached that will see Barcelona pay an initial fee of €55m for the 21-year-old, which could rise by a further €10m in add-ons.

Torres is set to sign a five-year deal with the La Liga side and will replace Sergio Aguero at the Camp Nou, following the forward’s recent retirement after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

Torres signed for City from Valencia in a €23m deal from Valencia in 2020 and has scored 16 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions.

He has not featured for Manchester City since injuring his foot whilst on international duty with Spain in October.

The versatile forward had reportedly been keen on a return to La Liga after breaking into the senior Spain side, with Torres having scored an impressive 12 goals in 22 caps for La Roja at international level.

Despite Barcelona’s current struggles both on the field and financially, the arrival of Torres adds to an exciting home-grown core for the Spaniards that includes Ansu Fati, Pedri and Gavi.
