Real Madrid shelve plans to sign Rudiger amid Chelsea defender’s demands

Real Madrid will not sign Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer next summer after refusing to meet the Chelsea defender’s contract demands.

Rudiger had emerged as a transfer target for the Spanish side after entering the final months of his current contract at Chelsea, the centre-back free to negotiate a contract with foreign clubs from the start of this month regarding a summer move.

Marca are reporting that negotiations with Rudiger’s representatives have failed to find the desired outcome, however, with Real unwilling to match the 28-year-old’s demands for a contract of around £200,000-a-week.

The impressive form of David Alaba and Eder Militao at Real Madrid has lessened the Spaniard’s need for defensive reinforcements and Los Blancos have decided against meeting Rudiger’s demands.

Despite harbouring an interest in moving to the Bernabeu the Germany international remains happy at Chelsea, but was left disappointed with the west London side’s initial contract offer as he seeks possibly the last major deal of his career.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in the centre-back, with the withdrawal of Real Madrid’s interest increasing the uncertainty surrounding his future.
