Ralf Rangnick ‘fears’ he can’t save Manchester United’s season with sections of the squad unwilling to buy into the interim manager’s methods.
United have made an underwhelming start under Rangnick’s management with last week’s home defeat to Wolves heightening the unrest at Old Trafford, the Red Devils currently seventh in the Premier League and four points adrift of the top four.
Reports have surfaced over the past week over divides in the dressing room with a number of players unhappy with their status and Rangnick’s methods, and the Mail are reporting that the German has doubts over whether he can turn around the club’s fortunes during his six-month spell in charge.
The 63-year-old’s position has reportedly been ‘weakened’ by his status as interim manager, whilst there are doubts from the squad over his training techniques and the calibre of his coaching team.
Rangnick believes there is a ‘selfish’ element to his divided dressing room and the Red Devils’ hopes of offloading unwanted and unhappy assets are hindered by their lucrative contracts.
Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek are amongst those interested in leaving the club this month, though the former’s wages are preventing a loan move to Sevilla at present.
United face Aston Villa in the FA Cup’s third round this weekend before meeting the same opposition in the Premier League next week.
