‘These things take time’ – Klopp ‘positive’ over Salah contract following Egyptian’s interview

Jurgen Klopp has discussed Mohamed Salah’s contract situation and says that it will ‘take time’ following the forward’s interview on his future.

Liverpool are in negotiations with Salah’s representatives over an extension to his deal at Anfield, with the Egypt international’s current contract running until 2023.

Salah this week opened up on his future in an interview with GQ, reiterating his desire to remain with Liverpool, insisting he is not asking for ‘crazy stuff’ with his contract demands.

The 29-year-old’s comments have placed the emphasis back on Liverpool’s hierarchy to find an agreement and Klopp has now offered his verdict on the situation.

Speaking ahead of the Reds’ Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal tomorrow evening, Klopp said he is positive about the contract talks and says negotiations over new deals ‘take time’.

“Nowadays it’s dangerous with these interviews,” Klopp at his pre-match press conference.

“We know, I know, that Mo wants to stay. We want him to stay. That’s where we are. These things take time, I cannot change it. It’s all in a good place.

“I am positive about it. The fans are not as nervous as you are. They know the club and know the people dealing with things here. We cannot say anything about it.”

Salah has been in sensational form for Liverpool this season, leading the Premier League’s goalscoring charts with 16 goals from 20 appearances. He also has nine assists for the campaign, the joint-most in the division alongside teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.
