Chelsea to get a ‘free run’ in pursuit of Tchouameni

Chelsea are set to have a ‘free run’ to sign Aurelien Tchouameni this summer despite interest from Premier League rivals in the Monaco midfielder.

Tchouameni has emerged as a transfer target for several leading sides following his impressive performances for Monaco, with the 21-year-old named as Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year for 2020/21.

Chelsea have monitored the progress of Tchouameni – who has earned seven caps since breaking into the senior France side last year – ahead of a potential move, whilst both Liverpool and Manchester United have been credited as admirers of the midfielder.

He has been mentioned as a potential long-term replacement for N’Golo Kante in midfield, having ranked second in Ligue 1 for tackles won during the 2020/21 season.

football.london are reporting that the west Londoners boast an advantage in the race for his signing, however, given the club’s ‘prolific nature in signing Ligue 1 players’ in recent seasons.

Manchester United are targeting midfield additions during the January window and summer, but the Red Devils’ focus is believed to be on the Bundesliga with the likes of Amadou Haidara (RB Leipzig) and Denis Zakaria (Borussia Monchengladbach) on the club’s radar.

Barcelona have also been linked with Tchouameni but will likely be unable to compete with the finances of the Premier League.
