Man Utd reach agreement over Martial exit

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Sevilla over Anthony Martial with the forward set to leave on loan for the remainder of the season.

Martial had informed the Red Devils of his desire to leave this month, with the 25-year-old having struggled for opportunities this season and keen on a new challenge.

Sevilla have now reached an agreement to sign Martial on loan until the end of the season, though Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the deal does not include an option to buy for the Spanish side.

Martial’s wages will be covered in full during his six-month spell in La Liga and he will fly to Spain on Tuesday to complete the formalities of the move, with the deal set to cost Sevilla around €6m as a result of a loan fee and the forward’s salary.

Sevilla had been keen to reinforce their forward options this month with the club currently second in La Liga, just four points behind Real Madrid as the club pursue a first league title since 1945–46.

Barcelona and Juventus had also been credited with an interest in the France international, but Sevilla are understood to have been his favoured destination as he looks to bounce back from a frustrating period at Old Trafford.

Martial scored just four league goals during a disappointing 2020/21 season and has failed to find his form once again this term, starting just two Premier League fixtures during the current campaign.

He will hope to rediscover the performances that saw him named as the Red Devils’ Player of the Season in 2019/20, having scored a career-best haul of 23 goals in all competitions.

Martial has made 279 appearances for United since arriving from Monaco in 2015, scoring 79 goals and providing 50 assists.
