Pulisic admits it’s been ‘tough’ since joining Chelsea

Christian Pulisic admits he has found it ‘tough’ since signing for Chelsea, following the winger’s struggle for form and fitness.

Pulisic signed for Chelsea in a £58m deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and enjoyed a promising first season with the west Londoners, scoring 11 goals and providing a further 10 assists.

His hopes of making a sustained impact have been hindered with fitness issues, however, whilst he has also struggled to command a regular role in the side amid competition for places at Stamford Bridge.

Pulisic has started just eight league fixtures during the current campaign and the 23-year-old has opened up on the challenges he has faced since moving to English football.

“It’s tough,” he told NBC Sports ahead of the USA’s clash with Honduras. “I haven’t always been playing in the positions I want to play in. But I think it’s a good quality to be versatile and be able to play in all kinds of positions and have different strengths on the pitch.

“So, yeah, I’ve learned a lot and I think I’m ready to hopefully be in a spot in the next couple of games that I’m more comfortable in.

“Obviously it’s been up and down this year, for sure. Not exactly where I want to be and how I want things to be right now. But, yeah, I’m just going to keep going and, like I said, it doesn’t affect me when I come here (international duty) so I’m excited to be here.

“When I come to the national team it’s, ‘How are things at Chelsea? What’s this, what’s that?’ And, yeah, things are… it’s tough. It’s tough. It’s definitely played a lot on me, and mentally it’s been difficult at times.”
