Everton have agreed a deal to sign Donny van de Beek from Manchester United on loan for the rest of the season.
The Netherlands international has endured a difficult time since his move to United 18 months ago, seemingly failing to sufficiently impress either Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Ralf Rangnick, starting just four Premier League games since his move to Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old is one of a number of players who are hoping to leave Manchester United before Monday’s transfer deadline due to a lack of minutes, the club having a relatively bloated squad.
After a difficult debut campaign, Van de Beek was on Everton’s radar back in the summer, though the Toffees were unable to strike a deal with United, while Solskjaer insisted that his chances would eventually come.
Crystal Palace have been in talks with the Red Devils on taking the Dutchman on loan until the end of the season, though Everton rekindled their interest on Saturday.
The Merseyside outfit are expected to confirm the appointment of Frank Lampard as the clubs next manager, with the former Chelsea boss said to have made the signing of Van de Beek a ‘priority’.
According to The Athletic, Everton reached an agreement with United on Saturday for the loan until the end of the season after agreeing to pay the entirety of the midfielder’s wages.
They go on to say that he has made the decision to move to Goodison Park as opposed to joining Patrick Vieira’s Palace.
Everton are currently four points above the relegation zone after a run of just one win in their last 14 league outings, with midfielders Aboulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph having been ruled out for four weeks through injury, meaning Van de Beek is likely to be thrust into immediate action.
