West Ham are hoping to complete deadline day deals for Darwin Nunez and Hugo Ekitike as the club look to boost their attacking options.
West Ham are understood to have agreed a fee with Benfica for Nunez, who is the leading scorer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season and has scored 20 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.
Sky Sports are reporting that there will be logistical difficulties in concluding a deal for the 22-year-old, however, with Nunez currently with the Uruguay squad as the nation prepare for a World Cup qualifier with Venezuela on Tuesday.
Nunez signed for Benfica in 2020 after a prolific single season with Spanish second-tier side Almeria and has scored 34 goals in 69 appearances since moving to Portugal. He has also scored twice in seven caps for Uruguay at international level.
West Ham have been keen to sign a forward to boost their hopes of a top-four finish, with Michail Antonio the only senior option currently among David Moyes’ squad.
The Hammers are also keen on a deal for Ekitike, who has impressed during a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 with Reims.
The 19-year-old has scored eight goals in just 11 league starts this season and has been linked with Newcastle this month, with the French side understood to value the teenager in excess of £25m.
