Man Utd blocked late loan exit for Henderson

Manchester United blocked a late deadline day loan move from Watford to sign Dean Henderson.

Henderson had wanted to leave the Red Devils in search of regular first-team football, having made just two appearances in all competitions this season after failing to dislodge David de Gea as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

Watford are understood to have made a late approach to sign the 24-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season, but the MEN are reporting that the offer was rejected by United.

Roy Hodgson was keen to sign a new goalkeeper late in the window after his appointment at Vicarage Road, though a deal failed to materialise as the Red Devils rejected Henderson’s wish to leave.

Newcastle and Ajax had earlier expressed an interest in signing the shot-stopper, who was keen to secure additional opportunities as he bids to regain his place in the England squad.

United have reduced the size of a bloated squad in January with the loan exits of Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, but both Henderson and Jesse Lingard have been left frustrated after the deadline passed without deals being agreed.

Lingard was subject of late interest from Newcastle and West Ham and is out of contract this summer, though was informed he would not be allowed to depart in the winter window.
