Arsenal preparing for club record summer spending spree

Arsenal are said to be preparing for a club record spending spree this summer with the Gunners budgeting a huge £180m for new additions.

The North Londoners are ready to back Mikel Arteta in the summer transfer market and are preparing a record budget for signings, with owner Stan Kroenke set for a huge show of faith in the manager.

Arsenal had wanted to sign a centre-forward and midfielder during the January window, but failed to secure their leading targets during the winter.

The Sun are reporting that funds will now be available to upgrade the side in key areas of the pitch, with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Alexander Isak and Ruben Neves all on the Gunners’ radar.

Arsenal remain in the hunt for Champions League football this season, though there are concerns that a small squad will struggle to compete with their top-four rivals. The club sanctioned the departures of several stars in January, including former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Callum Chambers and Sead Kolasinac also left on permanent deals, whilst both Pablo Mari and Ainsley Maitland-Niles face uncertain futures after leaving on loan.

With Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract in the summer, the signing of two new forwards is on the club’s wishlist with Calvert-Lewin and Isak the leading transfer targets.

Arsenal have already confirmed the signings of two new players, with Auston Trusty (Colorado Rapids) and goalkeeper Matt Turner (New England Revolution) agreeing deals to move from MLS in the summer.
