Ragnick insists ‘there are no problems’ with Jesse Lingard

Ralf Rangnick has insisted there are no problems with Jesse Lingard at Manchester United and confirmed the midfielder will return to the squad at Burnley.

Lingard was keen to leave the Red Devils in search of regular first-team football during the January transfer window, but saw an exit blocked despite interest from Newcastle and West Ham.

The 29-year-old has featured for just 88 minutes in the Premier League this season and is expected to leave as a free agent when his contract expires this summer, with the midfielder having since been embroiled in a dispute with Rangnick.

Lingad took to social media to refute claims by the interim boss that he had requested leave from the club to ‘clear his mind’ after failing to secure a move away, whilst he was left out of the squad for Friday’s FA Cup exit to Middlesbrough.

Rangnick has now moved to deny claims of a rift between the pair, telling his pre-match press conference that both Lingard and Edinson Cavani will return to the squad against the Clarets tomorrow.

“They’re both available and will both be part of the squad for tomorrow’s game at Burnley,” Rangnick said.

“Both are top professionals, both have been training well. I have a very good relationship with [Jesse], he knows I would have been willing to let him go at least until the issue with Mason [Greenwood] came up, he mentioned some personal issues.

“We have to look forward now, there are no problems whatsoever between myself and Jesse and vice versa. I’m very happy to have him in the squad and he’ll be in the squad for tomorrow night’s game.”
