Antonio Conte says Tottenham are working to eliminate recent ‘mistakes’ and has offered an update on his squad ahead of the club’s clash with Wolves.
Spurs suffered a setback in their pursuit of Champions League football after losing to Southampton in midweek, the North Londoners conceding twice in just three minutes late on to squander a lead.
The result leaves Conte’s side seventh, four points outside the top four but with games in hand on each of the sides above them.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with eighth-place Wolves, the Italian said his side are looking to eradicate the costly mistakes of recent performances.
“Yes we try to work to not repeat the mistakes we had against Southampton,” said the Italian. “We conceded three goals in the same way. It’s a process and we are working to try and improve that in every aspect.
“We need to work in a specific situation because we conceded three goals in the same way. Its not right for a team like Tottenham in the same way.”
Conte confirmed that Eric Dier will again be missing for the game with Wolves, but is hopeful the England international can return for the club’s clash with Manchester City next week.
“Unfortunately, he’s not fit,” Conte said. “For sure he is a big loss for us. He needs a bit more time to recover. I don’t know but I hope he will be available for the next game against Man City.”
Conte also spoke on deadline day signings Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur and suggested the midfield duo are in contention to start after substitute appearances in midweek.
“For sure this is a possibility but we have another training session to make the decision,” he said. “They are available. I prefer to wait until tomorrow then will make the best decision for the starting 11.”
