Jurgen Klopp has revealed his reaction to Manchester City’s loss to Tottenham last weekend and has given his thoughts on the Premier League title race.
Liverpool were handed a boost in their bid to catch the league leaders following City’s dramatic 3-2 loss to Spurs on Saturday evening, with the north Londoners scoring a stoppage-time winner at the Etihad.
Liverpool are six points behind City ahead of the Reds’ game in hand against Leeds tomorrow evening and, speaking ahead of the clash, Klopp insisted nothing has changed for his side despite the champions dropping valuable points.
“The truth is I was on the way home when it was 2-1 to Tottenham and then I arrived at home and didn’t follow it anymore because I was sure they would equalise,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
“Then we went out and the driver was very excited and told me that it was 2-2 then 3-2, I thought City won but it was Tottenham so ‘Oh’ was my reaction.
“Nothing changes for us, we have to win all our games.”
Klopp expects City to bounce back from the loss and enjoy a strong finish to the season, though his side have a chance to further close ground when the two teams meet at the Etihad on April 9.
The German says his immediate focus on on three points against Leeds, however, warning his side of the dangers Marcelo Bielsa’s side will bring to Anfield on Wednesday evening.
“You can expect [City to win theirs] historically. We play them once and that is the one we want to win, definitely as well. If it was 12 or 15 points it would be different situation, but now we just want to be focused on this game.
“It’s a very difficult Premier League game. You saw all the faces of Leeds on Sunday. Very brave offensively and go with everything they have, and then defensively you can cause them problems but it’s difficult as well because of the man marking all over the pitch.
“They never give up and we have to make sure we are 100% spot on.”
