David Moyes is looking to end West Ham’s wait for silverware with FA Cup success this season.
West Ham travel to face Southampton in the FA Cup’s fifth round tomorrow evening, as the Hammers look to progress to the last eight and keep alive their hopes of winning a major trophy this season.
The east Londoners have not won silverware since last lifting the FA Cup in 1980, but Moyes is hopeful his developing side can end that wait and outlined his intent to reach the competition’s latter stages.
Moyes believes winning silverware is the next step for his team after their improvement in recent campaigns, with West Ham also set to face Sevilla in the Europa League’s last 16 next month.
“Let’s be fair, every manager wants to win a trophy. We’re no different,” Moyes said at his pre-match press conference.
“I look more at how we’re going to continue to try and build the club and keep getting closer to winning trophies.
“We’re on a good track at the moment, but the next couple of years will be an important time. We’re trying to build a side that’s getting stronger. If we can do it sooner, great.
“We’ve made a swift move from a team around the bottom to a team towards the top end of the Premier League. We’re involved in Europe, had a decent run in the Carabao Cup, and we’re trying to get a good run in the FA Cup if we can as well.”
