Ten Hag ‘sounded out’ over Man Utd job

Erik ten Hag has been ‘sounded out’ over taking the Manchester United job this summer, though no official approach has been made for the Ajax manager.

Ten Hag has been named as one of the frontrunners to become the Red Devils’ next permanent manager as the Premier League side assess candidates to take the position ahead of next season.

The Dutchman has won admirers for his work with Ajax in recent campaigns, winning two Eredivisie titles and turning the side into a competitive force on the Champions League stage.

Sky Sports are reporting that United have not made official contact with Ajax over the 52-year-old, but Ten Hag has been ‘sounded out’ by intermediaries over his interest in moving to Old Trafford.

It is understood that Ten Hag would be ‘very keen’ to hold discussions with the Red Devils about succeeding interim manager Ralf Rangnick on a permanent basis.

Ten Hag has been with Ajax since 2017 and led the club to domestic doubles in 2019 and 2021, in addition to reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

His record of winning silverware, developing talent and working under a structured hierarchy are believed to appeal to United, who have a strong working relationship with Ajax ahead of potential discussions.

Mauricio Pochettino has also been linked with the role and the Paris Saint-Germain head coach could leave the Ligue 1 side after their Champions League exit to Real Madrid.
