Klopp says Liverpool’s trip to Man City won’t decide title

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City won’t decide the destination of the Premier League title as the top two meet at the Etihad this weekend.

Liverpool travel to face the league leaders on Sunday, with the Reds having narrowed the gap to just one point following a run of ten consecutive Premier League wins.

The form – and previous consistency – of both sides has seen many label the clash with Pep Guardiola’s side as a title decider, but Klopp insists he will be taking nothing for granted should Liverpool move above their rivals with a win this weekend.

“If we win against City, which is already difficult enough, I think no one would think, ‘That’s it, decided,’ because of the quality of the opponent,” he said after Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Benfica.

“We play now against the best team in the world, but we will give it a try anyway. What we did in the last few months since the season started, we created a basis. We are in the quarter-final [of the Champions League], the semi-final [of the FA Cup] and the further you go, the harder it gets.

“After this game there will be another game in another competition, but also in the Premier League as well.

“If you cannot be first you want to be second, if you are close then you want to overtake. We will give it a proper try.”
