The Austrian FA have denied contacting Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick over the nation’s managerial role.
Austria are searching for a new manager following Franco Foda’s resignation last month, with the German having chosen to leave his position in the aftermath of the World Cup play-off defeat to Wales.
Reports in Austria had suggested that the Austrian FA’s sporting director, Peter Schottel, has flown to Manchester for talks with Rangnick over taking the role.
Rangnick is in interim charge of Manchester United until the end of the season, but will move into a consultatory position with the Red Devils during the summer.
The Austrian FA have since clarified the reports via social media, however, denying an approach has been made to make Rangnick their next manager.

The Tweet, posted from the Austrian FA’s official account on Wednesday, said: ‘Clarification: There was no meeting between ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel and Ralf Rangnick, coach of Man Utd.’
Rangnick’s new role will be on a two-year contract, though it remains to be seen how the former RB Leipzig and Schalke coach works alongside the club’s next permanent manager.
United are in the midst of their recruitment process for a new head coach, with Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino understood to be among the frontrunners for the position.
