Jurgen Klopp has dismissed talk of Liverpool winning four trophies this season and says he is only concerned with the club’s clash with Benfica on Wednesday.
Liverpool will look to book their place in the Champions League semi-finals with a positive result against Benfica at Anfield tomorrow, having secured a 3-1 first leg advantage from the first meeting in Portugal last week.
The Reds remain in the Premier League title race and trail Manchester City by a single point following a 2-2 draw between the sides on Sunday, whilst Klopp’s side will meet the same opponents in the FA Cup semi-finals this weekend.
Having already won the Carabao Cup, there has been tentative talk outside Anfield of an unprecedented quadruple of major trophies but Klopp was keen to talk down talk of a clean sweep of major honours.
“You can not go for four trophies, you are part of four competitions,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.
“So we are thankfully good enough this year to not go out early but the fixture list that we have now it it lets us gets through.
“The only game I’m concerned about is Benfica.”
Klopp reiterated his focus on one fixture at a time, with Liverpool in the midst of a challenging run of fixtures that will see the Reds face Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton and Newcastle before the end of the April.
“The fixture list we have now…we have to get through. I am only concerned about Benfica now. Then City Saturday. United, Everton and maybe a semi. BT and PL gave us Newcastle 12.30…People want to see us on TV as we’re hot, I couldn’t care less.
“It’s unbelievable. We played City, so tough, how could I think about other comps? We play Benfica, I cannot think of anything else. We just try to make it to the last, final decisive step.”
