Man Utd reach ‘verbal agreement’ with Ten Hag

Manchester United have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with Erik ten Hag to become the club’s next permanent manager.

Ten Hag is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Premier League side after emerging as the Red Devils’ preferred candidate, with the Ajax manager having impressed during formal interviews at Old Trafford.

 

The Athletic are reporting an agreement has been reached ‘in principle’ with the Dutchman, though an announcement will not be made until after Ajax’s KNVB Cup final against PSV on April 17, with United keen to respect the club’s preparations for the cup final and conclusion to the season.

Ten Hag emerged as a leading contender for the role after impressing during four seasons at Ajax, winning two Dutch league titles and leading the side to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

His rebuilding of the side despite losing key players in recent transfer windows has also won admirers with Ajax currently four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.

United have chosen Ten Hag ahead of Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino, with Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui the other names considered for the role.

Ten Hag will replace Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford with the German to remain in interim charge until the end of the season.
