Rangnick ‘positive’ Ten Hag appointment will lead to improvement at Manchester United

Ralf Rangnick says he is ‘pretty positive’ that Erik ten Hag’s appointment can lead to improvement at Manchester United next season.

Ten Hag has been confirmed as the Red Devils’ next permanent manager and will move to the Premier League from Ajax at the end of the season, with the Dutchman having signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has forged a fine reputation across four seasons with Ajax, having won two Eredivisie titles with the Dutch side.

The 52-year-old will become the club’s fifth permanent manager since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and will be tasked with turning around the fortunes of a struggling side.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Arsenal, interim manager Rangnick is confident the club have made the right appointment and says he is positive Ten Hag can oversee improvement after a full pre-season with the squad.

“We don’t know each other in person,” Rangnick said.

”From what I’ve seen of him with Bayern Munich and Ajax now, I like his football and I’m pretty positive with a full pre-season and having the chance to build and mould his own staff with a new team, I’m pretty sure we’ll see a different team and improvement on the pitch.”
