Frank Lampard has called for ‘fight and desire’ from Everton as the club take on Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby this weekend.
Everton make the short trip to Anfield on Sunday to face their city rivals, in need of a result as the club hover perilously above the Premier League’s relegation places.
The Toffees will begin the clash as huge underdogs against at a Liverpool team unbeaten at home this season, with the Reds chasing down Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Everton have won just once on the road this season and Lampard has outlined what he expects from his team as the club look to upset the form table and secure a result.
“It’s a huge fixture. I have watched it from afar many times. I am very happy to be involved,” said Lampard at his pre-match press conference.
“You can’t always control the result. This game brings a different energy to it. I expect passion, fight and desire. There’s not a game plan in the world that will work without that.”
Lampard also opened up on a past confrontation with Jurgen Klopp whilst manager of Chelsea, but insisted the incident has been moved past after admitting he got his touchline spat with the German ‘wrong’.
“All of us get it wrong at times. It was just a bit misguided from my point of view. I have seen Jurgen since then and everything is fine. We all move on because we understand what this game does to you at times.”
