Manchester United could have the advantage in the race to sign Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni this summer according to reports.
Tchouameni has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most promising talents across the past two seasons, being named as the division’s Young Player of the Year in 2020/21 and breaking into the France national side.
The midfielder’s performances for Monaco and at international level have drawn admiring glances from Europe’s biggest clubs, with Real Madrid, PSG, Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United having all been named as potential destinations for the 22-year-old.
However, according to Spanish publication AS, as per Sport Witness, it is Manchester United who could have the advantage in the chase, with each other interested party facing their own issues.
Newly crowned Spanish champions Real Madrid have viewed Tchouameni as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro, though the report says that the club will not sign him ‘at any price’.
Carlo Ancelotti has recently said that Casemiro’s successor is already at the club, and the report suggests that these comments come on the back of learning Monaco’s asking price for Tchouameni, reported to be €70 million (£58.6m).
Meanwhile, that asking price is likely to be too high for Juventus, while Chelsea’s interest could be hampered by the sanctions currently placed upon the club that prevents them from doing virtually anything that has any financial implications.
That could leave Manchester United with an advantage, with the report saying that the Red Devils would be willing to meet the asking price for the midfielder, the club preparing a major overhaul of their playing squad this summer.
The Old Trafford faithful waved goodbye to Nemanja Matic during the 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday evening, while the likes of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, and Jesse Lingard are all expected to leave as free agents to leave the club’s midfield in need of additions following the arrival of Erik ten Hag.
