Erling Haaland’s contract at Manchester City will have a release clause in excess of €150m.
Haaland will sign for Manchester City this summer after the Premier League champions activated a £51m release clause in his deal at Borussia Dortmund, with Pep Guardiola’s side having beaten off competition from a host of leading clubs to secure his signing.
The Telegraph are reporting that among the demands from Haaland’s team was the inclusion of a release clause in any deal, though reports from Germany of a figure of €150m are believed to be wide of the mark.
Haaland’s release clause at the Etihad will be in excess of that figure, though City ‘see no reason’ why the forward’s best seasons will not be spent at the club, while they are in line to make a huge profit should any side trigger his clause.
Haaland chose a move to Manchester for both personal and sporting reasons, with the Norwegian’s father, Alf-Inge, having spent three seasons with the club during his own playing career.
City are also heading towards a fourth Premier League title in five seasons and the presence of Pep Guardiola as manager was another major influence on the 21-year-old’s decision.
City have previous in keeping hold of their best talent with both Sergio Aguero and David Silva spending decades with the club despite continued rumours of interest from Europe’s elite.
The hope will be that Haaland – who has scored 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund – can continue that rate of productivity across a sustained period in the Premier League.
