Real Madrid are set to win the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni with the club closing in on an €80m deal for the Monaco midfielder.
Tchouameni has emerged as one of the most in-demand young talents in European football after a brilliant breakthrough at Monaco, with the 22-year-old named as France’s Young Player of the Year in 2020/21 and included in the divisional Team of the Season in consecutive campaigns.
Real Madrid and Liverpool were reported to have agreed terms with the player’s representatives, though RMC are reporting that Tchouameni has now decided on a move to Spain.
The midfielder became a leading focus for the Spaniards after missing out on Kylian Mbappe, who turned down a move to the Bernabeu in favour of signing a new record-breaking contract at PSG.
Liverpool had been interested in the France international as Jurgen Klopp looks to add to his midfield options, with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner all into their thirties and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expected to depart this summer.
Manchester United and Chelsea have previously been linked, though Tchouameni is closing in on an €80m move to Madrid that will see the midfielder sign a five-year deal with the Champions League finalists.
