De Jong and Antony are two ‘definite arrivals at Manchester United’

Manchester United will ‘definitely’ sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona and Antony from Ajax this summer, according to reports.

United have been linked with De Jong for a number of weeks now as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his Manchester United side in the middle of the park, the Old Trafford outfit having seen Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba leave the club on free transfers this summer.

While De Jong initially voiced his desire to remain at Camp Nou, there are increasing reports that Ten Hag has persuaded the Netherlands international to make the move to the Premier League side, with the two clubs in talks over the value of a deal.

The pair enjoyed a successful spell together in Ajax, winning the league title and infamously reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018/19, earning the midfielder his big-money move to Barcelona.

In recent days, Manchester United have also been linked to one of Ajax’s current crop, Brazilian winger, Antony.

It has been claimed in Brazil that United have submitted a €45m (£38.4m) bid for the winger, the news coming just days after the Red Devils seemingly missed out on the signing of Darwin Nunez.

Aside from being a player that Ten Hag knows implicitly, the targetting of the left-footed Antony would seem to solve a more glaring deficiency on the right of United’s attack, given that Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga all more suited to playing on the left.

Now, talkSport’s Alex Crook say that United will definitely sign the duo, with United not having distanced themselves from the rumours of a move for Antony.

“I think United are definitely in for Antony,” he said.

“His numbers for much of the season were decent, I think he missed the end of the campaign injured but he’s obviously someone that Erik ten Hag knows well.

“There’s been talk of a £40million bid going in for him, certainly my sources at United haven’t distanced themselves from those rumours so I think Antony is a target.

“In fact I’ve had a text from somebody else saying if he doesn’t become a Manchester United player this summer I would be surprised.

“I think at the moment him and Frenkie De Jong look like two definite arrivals at Manchester United and are two players that Ten Hag clearly trusts and believes he can get the best out of.”
