Chelsea are ‘weighing up a move’ to sign Leicester defender Wesley Fofana as the club look for centre-back additions.
Thomas Tuchel wants to reinforce his defensive options before the closure of the transfer window, with Fofana having emerged as a transfer target for the west Londoners.
The 21-year-old shone during his debut campaign with the Foxes in 2020/21 and was named as Leicester City’s Young Player of the Season, before a broken leg sustained in a pre-season friendly restricted Fofana to just seven league appearances last season.
Chelsea had agreed a deal to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla, but Barcelona now appear to be leading the chase for the Frenchman and the Mail are reporting that the Blues are now considering a move for Fofana as an alternative.
The departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have left Chelsea short of defensive depth, despite the arrival of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
Tuchel wants to sign two further centre-backs and has also been frustrated in pursuits of Matthjis de Ligt, who has signed for Bayern Munich from Juventus, and Nathan Ake.
Brendan Rodgers last week said Leicester need to sell players this summer before incomings can arrive at the King Power Stadium, with the Foxes yet to make a signing in the current window.
“Clearly, we have to do some business out before we can get players in,” Rodgers said, as per the Metro.
“We just are not in the same position as some of the other clubs. Until that changes, I keep working with the players we have.”
