Manchester United have held talks with Red Bull Salzburg over the signing of teenage forward Benjamin Sesko.
Sesko is the latest prospect attracting interest at the Austrian champions and impressed during Salzburg’s 1-0 win over Liverpool on Wednesday, scoring the decisive goal at the Red Bull Arena.
United are among the clubs tracking the progress of the 19-year-old who scored 11 goals during a breakthrough campaign in 2021/22, with The Athletic reporting that the Red Devils have opened talks over a potential deal.
However, Salzburg are reluctant to sell Sesko this summer and, according to Fabrizio Romano, would only consider an ‘important’ offer for the forward.
The club’s preference is to keep Sesko – who has scored two goals in 13 caps for Slovenia at international level – for a further season at least, following the exit of Karim Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund.
Meanwhile, a Manchester United move for Ajax winger Antony has been ‘ruled out’ at this stage. The Dutch side are under no pressure to sell following an exodus of players this summer and the club’s €100m valuation of the Brazilian has proven prohibitive.
