RB Leipzig are ‘leading the race’ to sign Timo Werner from Chelsea with the club keen to bring the forward back to the Bundesliga.
Werner has been linked with an exit from Chelsea after admitting his frustration with a bit-part role under Thomas Tuchel. The 26-year-old made just 15 league starts last season and could be allowed to leave in search of more regular opportunities.
Leipzig have expressed an interest in re-signing Werner, who scored a club-record 95 goals in 159 appearances for the Bundesliga side before moving to the Premier League in a £47.5m deal in 2020.
Werner has since struggled to replicate that form at Chelsea and has managed just ten league goals across two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Juventus have also credited with an interest in the German, though Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Leipzig are ‘pushing more’ to secure a deal for their former forward.

Juventus remain keen to bring Alvaro Morata back to the club from Atletico Madrid, but have considered Werner as an alternative.
Despite reported interest from Newcastle, there have reportedly been no direct talks between Chelsea and the Magpies over a potential deal for Werner.
Werner will hope an exit can improve his chances of earning a starting position for Germany ahead of the World Cup this winter, with the forward having scored 24 goals in 53 caps at international level.
