‘Fantastic player’ – Tuchel reveals Chelsea are just waiting on ‘paper work’ to complete Cucurella signing

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Chelsea are in the process of completing ‘paper work’ before announcing the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton.

Chelsea are set to seal the signing of Cucurella from Brighton for a fee which could rise to £62m including add-ons, a deal which will make the Spaniard the club’s fourth-most expensive signing of all time.

The west Londoners are set to loan Levi Colwill to Brighton as part of the deal, with Chelsea’s reluctance to part with the teenager on a permanent basis raising the fee for Cucurella.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the club’s Premier League opener at Everton, Tuchel has confirmed that Chelsea are finalising a deal for Cucurella.

He described the defender as a ‘fantastic player’ and believes Cucurella can contribute in several positions across the Blues’ backline.

“It is not done yet, the paper work is being processed. Marc is a fantastic player, young player, a very intelligent player who can play in a number of positions in our system,” he said.

”That is why we hope the deal goes through; if it does it opens up options like Levi Colwill to find some game time elsewhere.”
