Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi with the winger having asked to leave Chelsea on loan this summer.
Hudson-Odoi has failed to establish himself in the senior side at Chelsea and was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 20-man squad as the west Londoners began the Premier League season with a win at Everton on Saturday.
The 21-year-old made just 11 league starts last season and is keen to secure more regular first-team football after a frustrating spell on the fringes of the Chelsea squad.
Leicester and Southampton are among the clubs considering a move, while theĀ Guardian are reporting that Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign the winger.
Dortmund made an attempt to sign Hudson-Odoi last summer and the player is keen on a potential move to the Bundesliga. Hudson-Odoi is keen to feature at a high level and Dortmund’s track record in improving young players – including England internationals Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham – made the German side an attractive destination.
Hudson-Odoi has been subject of interest from Germany before with Bayern Munich having seen multiple bids rejected in 2019. The academy graduate submitted a transfer request amid the interest, before eventually signing a new long-term contract at Chelsea.
However, he has failed to develop as hoped since his initial emergence and now wants to secure regular opportunities with a loan move. Hudson-Odoi could be one of several names to depart Chelsea before the closure of the transfer window, with Timo Werner, Malang Sarr and Marcos Alonso all nearing exits.
