Chelsea set to submit third improved bid for Fofana

Chelsea are set to submit an improved third offer for Wesley Fofana, despite Leicester’s reluctance to sell the defender this summer.

The west Londoners have seen a second bid in the region of £65m turned down for the centre-back, with Leicester having insisted that Fofana is not for sale.

However, the Mail are reporting that Chelsea are prepared to return with an improved bid as Thomas Tuchel looks to improve his defensive options before the transfer deadline.

The Foxes are understood to value the 21-year-old in excess of the £80m world-record fee that took Harry Maguire from Leicester to Manchester United, and a proposal in that region could change the club’s stance.

Fofana is said to be keen on a move to Chelsea and is believed to be pushing for a move, though Leicester are in a strong negotiating position given the Frenchman signed a new five-year deal in March.

Leicester have been unable to make new signings so far this summer and Fofana’s sale would provide Brendan Rodgers with significant funds in the final stages of the window.

The Foxes are also facing strong interest in James Maddison and have turned down two bids from Newcastle for the midfielder, while the Magpies have also enquired about Harvey Barnes.

Youri Tielemans could also leave with the 25-year-old into the final 12 months of his deal and a reported transfer target for Arsenal.
