PSG in talks with Man Utd’s Rashford ahead of potential move

PSG are reportedly in contact with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford ahead of a potential transfer.

The England international has endured a difficult 18 months due to form and fitness issues, scoring a career-low five goals in all competitions for the Red Devils last season.

Reports earlier this year claimed that Rashford was considering his future at Old Trafford due to a lack of minutes under interim boss Ralf Rangnick, though seemed to show glimpses of his former self during Manchester United’s pre-season tour under Erik ten Hag.

However, reports in France have now claimed that the 24-year-old is in talks with the French champions regarding a potential move to the Parc des Princes, a stadium that Rashford infamously despatched a last-minute penalty to see United dump PSG out of the Champions League in 2019.

The report in L’Equipe says that talks are ‘moving positively’, while French journalist Julien Laurens claims that Rashford is ‘keen on a new challenge’.

Both sources say that PSG are yet to make contact with Manchester United regarding a potential move, with United already looking particularly light up front and looking to bolster in attacking areas themselves.

Rashford does only have one year on his current deal, though the club do have the option to extend it by a further year which would potentially prevent him from leaving on a free next summer.

PSG boss Christophe Galtier revealed this week that he was keen to sign a new forward, with Mauro Icardi thought to be surplus to requirements.

“Yes, we would like to bring in another forward. We have a very busy schedule, so we would like to bring someone in,” he said at a press conference ahead of Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash against Montpellier.

“The club is working hard on that. I am in constant contact with [PSG football advisor] Luis Campos, the board and the president. We must not make any mistakes. We must not rush things. We have to do something realistic.

“There are no guarantees. I know the club won’t sign anyone for the sake of it. It would need to be someone who can really bring something to the squad and that is what the club are working on.”

Whether United would be willing to sanction the sale of their academy graduate with so little time remaining in the transfer window remains to be seen.

They have, however, been linked with PSV’s Cody Gakpo, a 23-year-old who largely operates from the left and having scored 21 goals in 47 appearances last season.
