Manchester United have been dealt a blow after Ajax encountered problems over a replacement for Antony.
United are in negotiations over a deal for the Ajax winger with reports suggesting that the Red Devils are prepared to increase their offer to around €94m (£79m) including add ons.
Ajax have been reluctant to allow the 22-year-old to leave following an exodus of big names this summer, but the huge fee – one which would represent an Eredivisie record sale – could alter that stance provided a replacement can be found before the deadline.
The Dutch champions have been in negotiations with Chelsea over Hakim Ziyech, but according to De Telegraaf have reached ‘complications’ over a deal to re-sign the Moroccan.
Ziyech starred during his previous spell at Ajax, providing 130 goals and assists in 165 appearances before moving to Chelsea in a £33m deal. The 29-year-old is open to a return to Amsterdam, but the manner of his return has seen a deal stall.
Ajax want to sign Ziyech on loan and are willing to pay half of his current wages. However, both Chelsea and Ziyech want a permanent deal with the west Londoners hoping to recoup most of their initial investment in the winger.
Ziyech is also keen to avoid the chance of returning to Stamford Bridge once his loan deal at Ajax concludes. Ajax, however, view the price-tag of €40m as too much and have reservations over whether the club could match Ziyech’s wage demands.
The club are also keen to ensure there are opportunities this season for young talent including Sontje Hansen, Amourricho van Axel Dongen and summer arrival Francisco Conceiçao.
