Man Utd linked with re-signing Memphis Depay after Juventus transfer collapses

Manchester United have been linked with re-signing Memphis Depay after the forward’s move to Juventus collapsed.

Depay is free to leave Barcelona following the summer arrival of Robert Lewandowski and had appeared set to sign for Juventus, with his representatives discussing the final details of a move to Turin.

However, Juventus have since switched their attention to the loan signing of Arkadiusz Milik from Marseille. Adrien Rabiot’s failed move to Manchester United has impacted Juventus’ budget and the club are now focused on loan arrivals, including the signing of PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes.

The collapse of the Depay deal has now led to speculation that Manchester United could make a move to re-sign their former forward. Depay struggled following a £25m move to the Red Devils from PSV Eindhoven in 2015 and was allowed to leave after an underwhelming 18 months.

He has since rebuilt his career with an impressive spell at Lyon, before joining Barcelona on a free transfer last summer. The 28-year-old scored 13 goals in all competitions for the Spaniards last season and Sport are reporting that Erik ten Hag is considering a move for his compatriot.

United are keen to increase their forward options amid uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future and reports have suggested Depay could even be available on a free.

The Dutchman is comfortable in a number of roles across the forward line and has scored 42 goals in 80 appearances for the Netherlands, with only Robin van Persie having scored more.
