Jurgen Klopp insists he’s not worried by Liverpool’s poor start to the Premier League season but has urged his squad to increase their effort.
Liverpool take on Bournemouth this weekend, looking to secure a first win of the Premier League campaign. Monday evening’s 2-1 loss at Manchester United extended the Reds’ winless run to three games, the first time the club have reached this stage of the season without a win since 2012/13.
Klopp’s team are seven points behind leaders Arsenal, but the German insists he is not worried. He did, however, call for increased effort from his squad as the Reds look to bounce back from a poor start and climb the table.
“You can worry if you want, but it doesn’t make too much sense,” said Klopp at his pre-match press conference. “If you start worrying because other teams have nine points then that is not helpful.
“This team delivered in the last four-five years at a consistently high level. A little drop a couple of years ago but, apart from that, so often on the winning side. Sometimes – I don’t speak about the closer group – people take things for granted. We have to and had to work incredibly hard for it, and that’s what we will do.
“It’s too early to close the season, definitely, and say that’s it for us. Nobody knows what we can achieve at the end of the season, Between now and then there are a lot of points to get and we should start collecting them.”
