Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of his Liverpool squad ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool make the short trip to face Everton on Saturday lunchtime, as the Reds look to continue the momentum of successive Premier League wins.
Klopp’s squad has been decimated in the season’s early weeks with a number of injury problems, with Jordan Henderson the latest to be sidelined after sustaining a hamstring issue during Wednesday’s win over Newcastle.
Klopp confirmed Henderson will miss this weekend’s clash at Goodison Park and provided an update on Liverpool’s absent stars, including Naby Keita, Thiago and Ibrahima Konate.
“We are still waiting for the result on Hendo [Jordan Henderson, hamstring]. We’ve heard nothing yet. He’s definitely out, just don’t know the extent,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
“[Naby] Keita is a muscle injury. Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] is a muscle injury and he will be out for a while. Calvin Ramsay is still out, getting closer and closer, it’s his back. Something to do with age and growing. He hasn’t trained with us properly.
“Thiago is the closest of them all. At the start of next week he will be in team training. Ibou [Ibrahima Konate] is not too far away. In and around the international break he will be back in training.”
There was more positive news on Diogo Jota who is likely to return to the squad after resuming first-team training this week. Darwin Nunez will also return from suspension, though deadline day arrival Arthur Melo is not expected to be involved as he awaits international clearance.
