Guardiola ‘delighted’ with Haaland but rubbishes pundits predictions

Pep Guardiola admits he has been delighted with Erling Haaland’s impact at Manchester City, but has rubbished pundit’s predictions that the forward will break all records this season.

No player in Premier League history has scored more goals in their first five matches than Haaland, whose haul of nine includes back-to-back hat-tricks in wins over Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

He became just the sixth player to score successive trebles in midweek, while he is the fastest footballer in Premier League history to claim two match balls.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Aston Villa this weekend, Guardiola praised the impact of the Norwegian since his summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Guardiola refused to comment on predictions that the 22-year-old will break more records this season however, admitting opinion on Haaland has changed quickly after criticism following a wasteful performance in the Community Shield.

“I admire all those who predict what can happen in the future, one month ago he was a disaster and now he’s going to break everything,” Guardiola told his press conference ahead of his sides clash with Aston Villa tomorrow.

”I’m not able to anticipate what will happen, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, never mind two or three years.

”We are delighted with him, the backroom staff help the new players to adapt and they’ve made it easy for him to adapt.”
