Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United ‘want to win’ the Europa League this season ahead of the club’s group stage opener with Real Sociedad.
United begin their European campaign at home to the Spanish side on Thursday, as the Red Devils look to start with a positive result and build momentum following four consecutive wins in the Premier League.
Ten Hag was asked whether he would rotate his squad ahead of the clash given a congested schedule and admitted rotation will be necessary in the coming weeks.
However, the Dutchman insists that United will take the Europa League seriously this season and says his aim is to win each game and every tournament.
“We have to win every game,” he said at his pre-match press conference. “And we want to win every tournament so we have to take everything serious. We not only have a team, we have a squad, that’s clear. But we have to win every game. That is the mentality that Manchester United needs.
“Maybe I cannot keep them [the players] all happy every game but everyone gets their game-time if they perform well, it’s quite clear. But what I say, we need everyone – we have a lot of games to cover.
“There is a lot coming in front of us, and the national teams of course – the World Cup – but also all of the cups in England. The Europa League, where we are now getting in, and, of course, the Premier League.”
