Man Utd players expecting Ronaldo to renew push for exit in January

Manchester United players are expecting Cristiano Ronaldo to renew his push for an exit from the club in January.

Ronaldo informed Manchester United of his desire to leave the club during the summer, after the Red Devils missed out on Champions League qualification.

Despite his want for a move, several leading clubs distanced themselves from a transfer and the deadline passed with Ronaldo remaining at Old Trafford.

The 37-year-old – who missed a large period of the club’s pre-season campaign – has struggled for favour during the season’s opening weeks and has started just one Premier League fixture with Marcus Rashford preferred at centre-forward.

Erik ten Hag has insisted that Ronaldo remains part of his plans and has backed the forward to feature prominently during the campaign, but the Mail are reporting that there is a feeling from inside the dressing room that the Portugal captain will push for an exit in the winter.

There are reservations from some as to how Ronaldo fits into Ten Hag’s tactics, with the club having shown encouraging signs – winning four consecutive Premier League fixtures – with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on the sidelines.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season after returning from Juventus and was named as The Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.
