Kante ‘unwilling’ to accept Chelsea contract

N’Golo Kante is ‘unwilling’ to accept Chelsea’s current contract offer with the club so far unable to agree new terms with the midfielder.

Kante has entered the final 12 months of his deal with the west Londoners and will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January, with a number of teams across Europe monitoring his situation at Stamford Bridge.

Negotiations have been ongoing between Chelsea and the France international over a new deal, though The Athletic are reporting that Kante is unwilling to accept the club’s current proposal of a two-year extension, with the option of a further year.

The 31-year-old wants a deal of a longer duration, though there are reservations at Chelsea given the midfielder’s fitness issues across the past two campaigns.

However, Kante has seen Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (33) and Kalidou Koulibaly (32) given long contracts this summer and will point to his continued importance when fit as argument for more substantial terms.

Chelsea want to keep the midfielder and Kante remains happy in west London, where he is willing to end his career, and discussions are ongoing as the two parties look to reach a compromise.

There will be no shortage of suitors should an agreement not be reached however, with two clubs in England, alongside teams from Spain, Germany and France keeping tabs on his situation.
