Liverpool to renew interest in Federico Valverde

Liverpool want to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid and are willing to make a club-record offer for the midfielder next summer.

Jurgen Klopp wants to overhaul his midfield options next season and has made Valverde a leading transfer target after a failed move for the Uruguay international during the summer.

The Reds are understood to have made an enquiry to Real Madrid for Valverde, but saw their approach rejected with the Spanish side negotiating the sale of Casemiro to Manchester United.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool remain interested in a deal to sign Valverde and will make a renewed effort to sign the midfielder in 2023.

Liverpool were reportedly willing to offer up to £80.4m (€93m) during the summer, but are prepared to increase that figure to a club-record fee of £87.4m (€100m) to secure a deal.

Valverde has began the new season in excellent form for Real Madrid, with the 24-year-old having scored three goals in five La Liga appearances.

According to TeamTalk, a move for Valverde will not influence the Reds’ pursuit of Jude Bellingham and the club will push to sign both the Borussia Dortmund midfielder and Valverde in a midfield overhaul.

Midfield has been an issue for the Reds during a disappointing start to the season, while the current campaign could prove to be the last for James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, each of who are out of contract next summer. Thiago and Jordan Henderson are also both the wrong side of 30.
