Christian Eriksen has discussed comparisons to Paul Scholes and the growing ‘confidence’ at Manchester United.
Eriksen has impressed since signing for Manchester United on a free transfer from Brentford and has been integral to the club’s recent upturn in form under Erik ten Hag.
The Denmark international’s quality of passing from a deep midfield position has even led to comparisons with club great Scholes, who won 11 league titles during a decorated one-club career at Old Trafford.
Eriksen admits he is flattered by the comparison, but highlighted how quickly opinion can change after criticism following a tough start to the season.
“It’s football in a nutshell and shows how fast it is,” Eriksen revealed to Politiken. “Of course, it is great to be compared to them, but you create your own ways and your own name.
“I was lucky that I managed to play against Paul Scholes. He was a good player, so I’m happy to be compared to him.”
Eriksen also spoke on his change of position and the Red Devils’ improved form, after five wins from their last six fixtures across all competitions. The midfielder believes his current role as a number eight suits his strength and admits a recent upturn in results has increased confidence at Old Trafford.
“During that period we were probably searching – also for my own part. I played many different positions in a very short time. First a little striker and then down in defensive midfield.
“In recent matches, I have played as an eight, and it suits me very well. It’s great that we’ve come back on top with wins, which have been good for us and created a bit of confidence.”
