Rudiger reveals shock that Tuchel was made the ‘bogeyman’ by Chelsea

Antonio Rudiger has revealed his shock at Thomas Tuchel’s sacking at Chelsea and revealed he reached out to his former manager following his exit at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel was sacked at Chelsea earlier this month following a mixed start to the new season, with Graham Potter named as his replacement.

The German was dismissed despite winning three trophies in his 20 months in charge of the Blues, including the Champions League in 2021.

Rudiger – who formed part of that team before leaving to join Real Madrid last summer – has admitted his surprise at Tuchel’s departure and believes the 49-year-old was made the ‘bogeyman’ in west London.

“First, he was allowed to bring in new players, only to be released after a few games. I was surprised at the speed,” Rudiger told Sport1.

“The day of his release was a sad one for me. I wrote to him afterwards and thanked him again for everything.

“He was there for everyone, not just me. If you look at where we came from and where he took us, he did the impossible.

“But you know how it is in football. Sometimes you’re the hero, sometimes the bogeyman.”
